If all you guys think it's bad become VEGETARIAN or read the book "skinny bitch".
Or if becoming Vegetarian is too hard eat FREE RANGE. Look at the milk , eggs, chickens at your grocery store.,,, it should say free range so at least the animals had a life and weren't stuck in cage where they can't even move!

Unfortunately, something being "free-range" or hormone free doesn't make it as humane as we'd like to believe. Chickens living in supposed free-range conditions may still live very crowdedly, and thus have their beaks cut off to reduce pecking injuries -- but debeaking causes horrible pain to the chickens, and many go into shock or starve to death because they are in too much pain to eat. Animals that are raised without hormones may actually suffer more than ones who are. They often still live crowdedly and so catch diseases, but then are not treated for them. For cows, there is also the fact that they have to have babies to produce milk -- and the male babies are often sold for veal. And all of these animals, free-range and hormone-free, are ultimately slaughtered. These animals deserve to live their own lives, not be used by us.

I agree. I am vegetarian. HOWEVER, I don't like to preach to people to automatically become vegetarian. Some people automatically think you are crazy and then don't give you a chance. It's hard to convince people to become vegetarian so I always recommend Skinny Bitch,, have you read it? Vegan women wrote the book. 2nd ,I say free range b/c even though it's HORRIBLE to slaughter animals I believe (and 1/3 of Europe believes)that these animals should at least have a life before they do die. If they are gonna die anyways don't you feel these animals should at least have a life. Animals are gonna be slaughtered no matter what we believe but I think that we need to do it humanely.

you're right about it being important about how you talk with people about being vegetarian or vegan. people don't like to be preached to, so it's good to be friendly in talking with people and create a good dialogue about it. let people know that you'll answer any questions they might have, and sharing good vegan food always goes a long way in making people more open to the idea of veganism. animals rely on us to be their voices against their cruel teeatment and unfair murders, and so we must represent them as best we can, and do so through respect, kindness, and intelligence.
you're touching on the idea of animal rights vs. animal welfare. animal rights has to do with recognizing that animals deserve to live their own lives, free from exploitation by humans. animal welfare has to do with the idea that it's okay to use animals as long as they are treated humanely. our stance is one of animal rights -- that no matter how well an animal is treated, we have no right to breed them for our use or slaughter them for our use. they have their own reasons for living. so, while animals will hopefully continue to be treated better, the ultimate good thing for them is to no longer slaughter them. animals are not going to be slaughtered no matter what; animals are only going to be slaughtered for as long as people accept slaughtering them. and we can all do our part to reduce the number of animals slaughtered by adopting a vegan diet -- for each of us who doesn't support the exploitation and slaughter of animals, animals won't be exploited or slaughtered. the animals need each of us.

Well, I agree with what you are saying however I think I'm more of a realist in the people will eat meat. I think you have to understand that ALOT of people are A-holes my friend and don't care unlike us. Not everyone cares . My friends don't. They say what most people say... " Awe, it's awful....." so tired of hearing that. It's like do something. I worked in the news industry for years and saw things I never thought could happen done to animals by people. People who only got slapped with tickets, fines etc..... I never knew that Horse Slaughterhouses still exist. Did you know that we (THE U.S) have so-called banned it but we sell old horses to other countries who in turn slaughter them under horrible practices. Then sell it back to us as food for the Greyhound races etc....What can we do about that?

There is definitely some messed up stuff that goes on with horse slaughter, and banning it in the US has created new problems that there are people working on. If you're interested in that issue, I would suggest checking out the HSUS page on horse slaughter -- it has a lot of good info about horse slaughter and current work being done to prevent transport to other countries for slaughter -- and what you can do to help : http://www.hsus.org/legislation_laws/citizen_l obbyist_center/help_end_horse_slaughter.html
while a lot of people seem to not care and people often are not punished enough for cruelty towards animals, that doesn't mean that we shouldn't keep working for a world in which animals are treated as they should be. i've seen amazing changes in people in their views and treatment of animals, and sometimes the people who start off as the biggest jerks end up being the most passionate vegan. some people just take longer. and overall, we've made some huge advancements for animals and veg eating. the passage of Prop 2 (and similar things in other states) was a landmark moment, and things such as more vegan options in restaurants and fake meats are signs that veg diets are becoming more popular and mainstream. even though i may never see a world in which people no longer eat meat, i do this for the animals that we are saving and for the people who are changing their diets.
