Going Vegan

One person CAN make a difference -- becoming vegan saves the lives of an estimated 100 animals per year. Vegan can be defined as "one who strives to consume no products that directly contribute to animal suffering (i.e. meat, dairy, eggs, fur, wool, leather, animal-tested products, etc.)".

To learn more about veganism, you can request a FREE vegan starter pack from Action for Animals. It includes information about factory farming, health, and the environment, and also some vegan recipes and awesome stickers.

of course you, as one person, can make a difference. by being vegetarian/vegan, you can save the lives of 100 animals a year -- just think about how many animals that means you'd be helping throughout your lifetime! not only are there the lives of the animals to consider, but there's also the effect that raising animals for food has on the environment. it takes a lot more water and grain to produce meat (because they have to go through the animal first) than it does to sustain a veg diet. and with the number of animals that are on factory farms, the waste pollutes air and water and methane gas from cows is considered a contributor to global warming. plus, there's your own health to consider -- vegetarians and vegans statistically live longer and have a reduced risk of obesity and some diseases. ...and this info is just a start. i'd suggest requesting a veg starter pack and/or reading the pdf files on our myspace to learn more about all the different issues related to veganism and animal rights. i realize that food is very much a social/cultural thing, and so it can be hard to change your diet for reasons related to that, but there are so many reasons to make the change to being vegetarian that make it worth it, especially if you care about animals. and there are SO many good vegan foods :) hope this helps and that you'll look even more into vegetarianism. just let me know if there's any specific info i can help you with or if you have any questions. glad you're interested!

*also check out "Veganism in a Nutshell" on myspace -- it's an audio recording that covers the health, environment, animals, and human rights that have to do with veganism. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseactio n=user.viewprofile&friendid=157848759
